HAPPY LIFE
All our pigs are OUTDOOR,FREE-RANGE FOR ALL OF THEIR LIVES and have access to shelter at all times. They are allowed to develop and grow naturally and are free to fulfil their basic instincts – to wallow, forage and root.

NATURAL DIET
Our pigs are fed a natural diet of fruit, vegetables and pig nuts, and are not given steroids, growth hormones or antibiotics (unless required for veterinary reasons).

RARE BREED
All the pigs we keep are rare, traditional breeds. These breeds are rare because they do not fit with modern, intensive systems of production.
The rare breeds are more suited to a natural diet without artificial growth promoters, which means they grow more slowly which helps improves the taste of the meat – which is great.

OUR BRITISH LOP BOAR - MR PILTON

THE BRITISH LOP
This is a large, lop eared white pig that originates from the West Country. The breed is currently listed as ‘endangered’, which means that there are less than 200 registered breeding sows.

The British Lop is leaner than many of the rare breeds producing good pork, hams and bacon. We chose to breed the British Lop because they are very docile and good mothers, but also to support the breed.

THE GLOUCESTER OLD SPOT
A large lop eared pig with a broad deep body. It is mainly white with a varying number of black spots (which folklore claimed were caused by falling apples).

The Gloucester Old Spot originates from the Berkeley Vale in Gloucestershire. It was also known as the Orchard Pig as it often grazed in the cider and perry orchards of that area, clearing up windfalls. It is a good all purpose pig.

THE SADDLEBACK
This is a medium to large lop eared pig, mainly black but with an unbroken white band running over the shoulders and down to both front feet. It is a very hardy pig and a good forager and is a good dual-purpose pig for combined pork and bacon production.

According to the Rare Breed Survival Trust these pigs are 'At Risk'. This means there are less than 500 breeding sows registered in this country.

THE LARGE BLACK
As the name suggests, this is a large black pig! In fact it is Britain’s only all black pig. It also has lop ears and a long deep body. The Large Black originated mainly in Devon and Cornwall.

Despite the recent interest in Large Blacks they are still identified by the Rare Breeds Survival List as Vulnerable. This means there are less than 300 registered breeding sows left in this country.
